Immature Plant/Clone Care basics

In this section of our website, we will give you the basic care instructions for taking care of immature plants and Clones.

Materials Needed

  • 1 or 3 gallon sized fabric pots or planters with holes in the bottom (one plant per pot)

  • Seedling starter soil

  • water with a pH of 6.5 or bottled spring water

  • Grow light (T5 is your best option, or an adjustable strength full spectrum light works too)

  • pH Meter

  • pH up & pH down (to adjust the pH of the water being used for your plants in all stages of growth.)

                                                                               Transplanting

Dig a hole into your 1 or 3 gallon pot roughly the size of the original container you purchased/started it in. LIGHTLY water the new medium, you do not want it soaked, just moist.  Remove the clone from the original container and place into the new soil or medium of your choice.  The stem of the clone should be as vertical as possible.  We find having a vertical stem leads to better growing results.

Fill the soil or chosen medium around the clone, be sure that the bottom and sides of the clone is in good contact with the media.

You will want a temperature between 70 and 80 degrees, with high humidity.

If it's still too cold outside, you will need to supplement light for the clone on a schedule of 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness.  We recommend waiting until 2 weeks after Mother's Day to put clones outdoors.

                                                                             Watering your clones

While you want to make sure you're giving your clone sufficient water, you must be careful to not over water them! do NOT get yourself on a water schedule, only water if the soil is dry.  Be sure not to use too much water.

Moving clones from inside, to outside

You need to introduce your clones to sunlight (after transplant) gradual and slowly.  Clones are extremely delicate and fragile at this stage of their growing cycle.  Any drastic, sudden shift, or change in their growing environment can and will impact their growth and overall health.

Starting with partial shade and indirect sunlight for the first few days helps with shifting them outdoors.

As your clones show signs of healthy and vigorous growth in partial shade, gradually give them more intense light.

                                                                                   Happy Growing!
